Kangertech SUBOX Mini Review
Posted by
onAs many of you have probably heard about the SUBOX Mini designed and made by Kangertech. The SUBOX brings a whole new level of design and performance for a small sub ohm device. Kangertech is a well-known brand in the e-cig industry that has been in the game for over 2 years. It has been known for its tanks and devices such as the Protank, Aerotank, and EVOD. Kangertech innovation keeps on improving to fit the latest e-cig trend and the SUBOX is a hot commodity in the market right now with its small framed device performing at a high level while maintaining a unique and beautiful design.
Kbox Mini Appearance
The design of the Kbox Mini is a simple design just like many box mods out there but the paint job is what makes the Subox stands out. It comes in two color design of black and red, or white and black. The combinations of one dominate color and a secondary color makes it easy to match the vape mod with clothing to accessories. The black and red SUBOX will go perfectly with some Air Jordan 11 Bred, just like the white and black SUBOX will go perfectly with a white iPhone with a black case. The combinations of it are endless. Plus the paint job is a ceramic matte paint giving a smooth texture. But I do see a problem of the Subox scratching when rubbing against metals and sharp objects.
The mod is small and compact with a height of 3.19 inches, a width of 1.44 inches and a diameter of 0.81 inches. It is easy to grip and I can hold in my hands comfortably. It should do well even those with small hands. The KBOX Mini is oval shaped with no sharp corner so holding it feels good.
The KBOX Mini has 510 connection and it will accept any 510 atomizer tanks with resistance as low as 0.3 ohm. The connector is not spring loaded, which I think can be an issue when using it with other tanks, not giving it a flush appearance. But when using with the Subtank Mini, it fits perfectly.
The magnetic battery cover works great, it is easy to remove and strong enough to stay on sturdy. It is hard to pull the cover off unless I stick the tip of my finger into the groove on the bottom of the cover, which pulls out quickly. So the chances of the covering falling out are unlikely especially when supported by four small magnetics with only one groove to really release the cover. The negative pin for the battery is spring loaded to ensure the battery will fit perfectly in place.
With the ability of micro USB pass-through charging, it makes charging the device much easier instead of having to remove the battery and using an external charger. I can at least vape while I charge my vape mod. Plus using micro USB makes charging extremely more convenient, since a lot of phones and electronic devices out there use micro USB, so someone out there got a charger lying around.
The button on the KBOX Mini is solid that most likely will not fire when shuffle in pocket or purse. There is a click when pressing down the button so I know when it is being pressed. The buttons come in the secondary color so it cannot be hard to miss. Holding down the + and – buttons down for 3 seconds will flip the OLED screen, so it allows the screen to view correctly according to left or right hand. The OLED screen turns on when vaping and shuts off when idling. The current voltage will only be displayed when the fire button is being pressed otherwise it will show zero, which would be better if the voltage always displayed according to resistance and wattage instead having to fire the mod for the voltage to be shown. The OLED screen is very easy to read with the screen inside the mod. The screen shows the current wattage, battery life, and resistance atomizer.
Kbox Mini Performance
I wouldn’t say the performance of the KBOX Mini is extraordinary compared to other box mods but it works great like other high-quality box mods out there. The device can go from 7 watts to 50 watts, which I think is more than enough when using with the Subtank Mini atomizers, the 0.5 and 1.2 ohm atomizer head. The adjustment of the wattage is very simple by pressing the negative and positive buttons. The wattage moves in increments of 0.1 watt but holding down button will increase or decrease in increments of 1 watt for faster adjustment. The device can be turned on and off by pressing the button 5 times, which OLED displays “Kangertech” when it is being turned on and “Off” when powering down. There is around a 0.4 second delay before firing when I think it’s typical for most box mods.
The Kbox Mini requires an external 18650 battery. It is recommended using a rechargeable 18650 battery with at least 25 amps. The battery life when using the Kbox Mini could vary depending on the wattage being used and how much you are using it. Typically I can go 2 days of vaping without having to recharge using it at 27 watts.
Subtank Mini Appearance
The Subtank Mini included with the Subox Stater Kit is an upgrade to the earlier version of Subtank Mini. The newer version in the kit comes with a black or white matte paint job and secondary color o-rings. The secondary color of the o-rings gives the tank a unique appearance that matches perfectly with the Kbox Mini. The paint can be scratched from rub against other metals or sharp objects.
Instead of one air hole, it comes with two air holes, one on each side of the base. The airflow is adjustable by rotating the dial on the tank. I found it to be very tight to adjust but at least with that, the dial won’t accidently adjust on its own. Allowing more air flow will produce more vapors, which I preferred compared to the smaller air holes which do allow a better throat hit.
The new Subtank Mini coils are improved compared to the earlier version where the coils were horizontal build, but with new ones being vertical build. I found that both versions work very similar but the new vertical coils kept the vapor much cooler and it did not overheat when using it consistently. The 0.5 ohm resistance provided more vapors compared to the 1.2 ohm coils, with a tighter throat hit.
Subtank Mini Performance
The performance of the Subtank Mini is exceptional producing great taste and huge vapor. With the Japanese organic cotton coils, the tank produces very tasteful flavors, the best tank I have used so far. The tank can hold up to 4.5ml of e-liquid, which will last a few days of vaping and it is easy to fill. The atomizer head can be easily replaced also. The ease of use for this tank is incredibly simple while producing vapors like a rebuildable.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I would give the Kangertech Subox Mini 5 stars for awesome performance to a gorgeous appearance. The mod is compact and comfortable to hold and carry around. The device produces awesome vapors with two-sided air holes with great taste with the Japanese cotton coils. The device can go up to 50 watts, which I think is way more than enough. I prefer to use 27 watts for 0.5 ohm coils and around 12 watts for 1.2 ohm coils. The ease of use for the device is great, with easy to adjust wattage with a bright OLED screen. The Subox can be great for even beginners as long as users follow the instructions and it allows users to vape like a pro with sub ohm capabilities without sub ohm knowledge.
